Free registration campaign of ‘Aponjon’ service for pregnant women and new mothers has been inaugurated successfully at Singra Upazilla of Natore district. Honorable State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the campaign by registering a pregnant woman to the ‘Aponjon’ service at the municipal conference room on Saturday 10 AM. Acting Upazilla Executive Officer Jahidul Islam chaired the campaign inauguration event along with Chief Guest Honorable State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak. In his speech, Mr. Palak said, “As a part of developing Digital Bangladesh, ICT division of the Bangladesh Government is working relentlessly to ensure that healthcare services reach out to each of the citizens through the utilization of ICT. Aponjon App will play an important role in reducing the children and mother mortality rates.” He praised Dnet when addressing the introductory organization for this initiative. Special Guests Upazilla Council Chairman Md. Shafiqul Islam and Upazilla Health and Family Planning Officer, Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman also attended the event.
Bernard Christopher Halsana, Head of Operations, Aponjon and Omar Serniabat, Head of Business, iSociaL were also present.
The first 500 pregnant and new mothers to register in the Aponjon program through mobile will enjoy the services for free. Social Enterprise iSocial will be there for overall support and field assistance during selection of service recipients and registration. ICT based Social Enterprise Dnet started the Aponjon initiative experimentally in 2011 in Bangladesh. In August 2012, Aponjon officially started its operations throughout the nation. United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mamoni-HSS, Health and family welfare ministry of Bangladesh Government, ICT Division along with many national and international partner organizations helped to Aponjon to serve 2 million subscribers.
Aponjon is a mobile based healthcare service for pregnant women and children. Life saving and important information is provided to people through mobile SMS or phone calls about pregnancy stages and growth of children according to age. There is also arrangement for other family members to know these information. That is why Aponjon service is welcomed in both rural and urban settings. Anyone can register to Aponjon service through their mobile by dialing 16227. Almost 2 million subscribers base of pregnant women, mother of infants and other family members got benefits from Aponjon service. Aponjon provides 2 pieces of information to mothers and 1 information to parents every week which costs 2 taka each only.
